On July,10th: redemption period : 24 hours to 7 days

Tuesday 01 July 2008 00:00:00

As discussed in the last Consultative committees, the protection period for a domain name deleted by a registrar will be extended from 24 hours to 7 days, on July, 10th. We remind you that during this period, only the registrar formerly in charge of the domain name can ask for its reactivation through a classical creation form with identical holder and administrative data. [...]

We remind you that during this 7 days period, the availability tools answer with a special error code Webservice check_domain   - free = 0   - reason = 52 (pending delete) : Before July 10th, 2008, the error returned during an attempt of creation of a domain name which has just been deleted within 24 hours  is: ' domain_deleted_today ' with as message " The domain name is in the course deletion". From July 10th, 2008, the error returned during an attempt of creation of a domain name which has just been deleted within 7 days  will become: ' domain_pending_delete ' with as message "The domain name is in the course of deletion with period of redemption". It is highly recommended to use the webservice to study the availability of the domain name instead of abusive use of creation form which could be considered by AFNIC as a potential threat to the registration system.

About AFNIC

Afnic is the acronym for Association Française pour le Nommage Internet en Coopération, the French Network Information Centre. The registry has been appointed by the French government to manage domain names under the .fr Top Level Domain. Afnic also manages the .re (Reunion Island), .pm (Saint-Pierre and Miquelon), .tf (French Southern and Antarctic Territories), .wf (Wallis and Futuna) and .yt (Mayotte) French Overseas TLDs.
In addition to managing French TLDs, Afnic's role is part of a wider public interest mission, which is to contribute on a daily basis, thanks to the efforts of its teams and its members, to a secure and stable internet, open to innovation and in which the French internet community plays a leading role. As part of that mission, Afnic, a non-profit organization, donates 90% of its profits to its Foundation for Digital Solidarity. Afnic is also the back-end registry for the companies as well as local and regional authorities that have chosen to have their own TLD, such as .paris, .bzh, .alsace, .corsica, .mma, .ovh, .leclerc and .sncf.
Established in 1997 and based in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, Afnic currently has 80 employees.
